Pain is an issue that presents across settings, disciplines, and can impact all aspects of a patient’s life. This makes the opportunity to gather and discuss how we understand and treat pain so important. On the eve of a new decade, both those who experience pain and those who treat it are confronted with an ever growing body of information about how best to approach pain management. We hope this conference will be an opportunity to take stock of the knowledge that has shaped pain management in 2019, the information that patients must wade through to make decisions about their own pain experience, and the future directions for pain management.

Christchurch, the seat of the Canterbury Region, is the largest city in the South Island of New Zealand lying on the South Island's east coast, just north of Bank Peninsula. It is home to 396,700 residents making it New Zealand's third most populous city behind Auckland and Wellington. Christchurch is not only the gateway to all that the beautiful South Island has to offer, it is a city that is in a period of growth and revival making it an exciting location to explore.
