Dr Ram Mani is the Director of Pain@Otago - A University of Otago Research theme and a Senior Lecturer & Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies at the School of Physiotherapy, University of Otago. He teaches chronic pain and musculoskeletal physiotherapy at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He serves as a member of the IASP membership & chapter committee. 

Ram’s research aims to provide an interdisciplinary understanding of mechanisms driving pain experience and test interventions targeting mechanistic factors to improve clinical outcomes in people with acute and chronic musculoskeletal pain. He is an investigator (Musculoskeletal pain) in the world-leading longitudinal study - The Dunedin Multidisciplinary Health and Development Study (Dunedin Study). Other research interests are knowledge translation, including implementing bedside Quantitative Sensory Testing (QST) in clinical practice to recognise sensitisation; and pain education in health professional curriculum and public media. He has attracted several external research funding including Health Research Council and Otago Medical Research Foundation.
